We develop structural engineering software, and we do the research behind it. Those are the two things the company exists to do.
What we build
Lunia is our structural analysis, design and detailing package for buildings. It models a structure, analyses it in three dimensions, designs the concrete and steel to Eurocode or British Standards, and produces the reinforcement drawings, bar schedules and calculation sheets that go out with a job.
It is one desktop application rather than a suite of separate programs, because the time an engineer loses is mostly spent moving a model between tools and rebuilding it on the other side.
Why we build it
Structural software is written mostly for large practices in a handful of markets, and priced for them. Engineers everywhere else make do — with spreadsheets, with tools that stop at the analysis, or with licences that cost more than the projects they are used on.
We think a working engineer should be able to take a building from model to issued drawings in one program, to a code they actually build to, at a price that makes sense where they practise.
Research
The engineering comes first
Design software is only as good as the engineering inside it. Every code provision Lunia applies is implemented from the published standard and verified against it, and the analysis is validated against closed-form solutions before it ships.
That work is continuous, and it is half of what this company does.
